ARTIST STATEMENT:

A modern aesthetic, invoking a bohemian style. “I’ve always been drawn to works of art that have an immediacy of reference to the handmade gesture.The original paintings are an ongoing study, in which the final pieces result from trying to harness yet expose a visceral energy of whimsical, irregular, and meditative line drawing. The sporadic and spontaneous nature associated with a “scribble” or “squiggle”, is something that I find as a direct relation to how I live my life. At times lost in a complicated, tangled mess, only to find that slow, conscious, methodical movements will help you find your direction. Occasionally, untraditional materials like coffee, aspects inspired by “Art-Brut,” and organic elements that resemble mid-century modern aesthetics are also worked into my compositions to facilitate and complement the meditative experience of painting itself.”
